In addition to these methods, we also employ the use of the Acutron for effective, needle-free acupuncture treatments. With this therapy, the meridian system has been shown to powerfully respond to gentle micro-current stimulation directly on the skin surface along with focused light stimulation, and sound waves. Each of these applies a form of resonant energy stimulation to acupuncture points and the meridian system.
In addition to the assessment methods of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine Integra Acupuncture Associates is pleased to provide the service of EMI (Electro-Meridian Imaging). For several years, conventional medicine has evaluated the bio-conductivity in the human body. The EKG measures the electrical activity of the heart, and the EMG tests the electrical signals in muscles. More than 50 years ago, the Japanese physician, Dr. Yoshio Nakatani, MD, PhD developed a method of examining the acupuncture meridian system. EMI measures skin conductance at specific acupuncture points on the hands and feet. These measurements are recorded with a numerical value that reflects the bio-electrical balance of each meridian. Combined with computer-enhanced imaging, the acupuncturist and the patient are able to see the state of their meridian system.
The results are highly consistent with the methods gained from traditional acupuncture assessments. However, with the introduction of this technology, the acupuncturist is able to detect meridian imbalances that were previously undetectable through the traditional methods. With EMI, Integra Acupuncture Associates offers the best of both worlds--the time-tested methods of traditional acupuncture with modern cutting-edge technology. Facial Rejuvenation
Perhaps the oldest branch of traditional Chinese medicine is the various forms of bodywork. Based on the same theories as traditional acupuncture, these ancient therapies are used as a preventative as well as a healing modality. By applying specific methods of tissue manipulation, obstructions in the meridian pathways can be removed, promoting and increasing the circulation of energy and blood. These modalities focus on improving the structure of the body along with the healing of soft tissue injuries. Tui Na therapy focuses on the external manipulation of the muscles and tendons. Gua sha is a frictioning technique to regulate the matrix between the muscles and fascia. It promotes energy and blood circulation as well as detoxes the body. An Mo is used for internal organ regulation. Jing Point therapy (which includes acupressure) is imployed for meridian and internal organ regulation. Qi An Mo integrates qigong with An Mo to balance the meridians of the body. Integra Acupuncture Associates introduces each of these modalities into our menu of services.
General Massage
Massage therapy is a manual therapy that manipulates tissues affecting muscles, organs, nervous and lymphatic system to provide relief from stress, muscle tension, muscle pain, stiffness, joint aches and pain, headaches, increasing circulation, helps recovery before and after joint surgery and the list goes on.
Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) or Trigger Point Therapy works with the neuromuscular junction and the relation of nerves and muscles to relief inconsistencies in the body. NMT treats muscle pain related issues, fascia-related issues and structural issues: migraines, plantar fasciitis, sports injuries, work-related injuries, general muscular injuries, TMJ syndrome, headaches, sciatic issues, neuralgia, tightness in muscles, muscles fatigue, and others.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy
Manual Lymph Drainage Techniques (MLDT) can directly affect the lymphatic system, interstitial fluid, and indirectly affect all body fluids including the venous and arterial blood circulation, as well as the cerebrospinal fluid. LDT can also affect the immune system, the autonomic nervous system, and through techniques like lympho-fascia release all the musculoskeletal system. The techniques help a wide range of conditions (Edemas, Dermatologic conditions, Premenstrual, Neurologic, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Neurological Conditions, Allergies,
Orthopedic Conditions, Pain, Detox, Stress, Gastroenterological,
Pneumological) by creating balance at the cellular level. The
techniques are low to mild pressure.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Cranio-Sacral (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the physiological system called the Cranio-Sacral system. The system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The technique complements the body's natural healing process. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction (Migraine, Chronic Neck and Back Pain, Brain and Spinal Injuries, Chronic Fatigue, Stress and Tension, Fibromyalgia, TMJ Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Post-Surgical Dysfunction). This is light to no pressure modality. Cranio-Sacral techniques balance the body functions and its ability to heal through minor manipulations of interstitial fluid found throughout the body.
Energy Work
Energy work consisting of Medical Qi Gong from the traditional
familiar system of Ta-Yu Fa Men Chuan is helpful in a variety of
conditions to manage stress and physiological conditions. The goal is to center and balance the internal aspect of the body and mind to create harmony within and without all the biological systems.
Medical Qigong (pronounced chee kung) is one of the main branches of traditional Chinese medicine. The words "Qi" and "gong" mean "energy" and "work" respectively. Qigong refers to the various body-mind practices used to cultivate the body's own natural energy. When applied specifically towards healing, these body-mind techniques are called "medical qigong."
Many of these practices include movement arts like Tai Chi while others include sitting practices like meditation. Although an ancient practice, modern science has shown great validity for its techniques thanks especially to modern research in fields like psychoneuroimmunology.
Another practice is "Wai Qi Liao Fa" which literally means "curing with external qi." To the casual observer, it looks like Reiki, but "Wai Qi Liao Fa" is based on the same theories as acupuncture. Although modern science has not been able to explain how it works, researchers in Japan have been able measure the phenomena. For example, in one study, researchers had a qigong master connected to an EEG (a device that is used in medicine to measure the electrical activity in the brain). In a separate room, the recipient of the "sending qigong" was likewise connected to an EEG. When the master "sent his qi," the EEG recorded dramatic changes in his brain wave patterns. Even more amazing was that the same changes in brain wave patterns were recorded in the recipient at the same time!
Integra Acupuncture Associates offers medical qigong sessions for those who wish to add this ancient practice to their other therapies. We not only teach patients how to do specific practices at home, but we perform "Wai Qi Liao Fa" sessions as well.

A native of Beijing, China, she began her training at an early age beginning with a study of the Chinese classics and classical Chinese language. She later became a disciple in TCM under Master He Pu Ren a famous TCM physician and Neijia (internal arts) master who was honored as one of China’s “Living Treasures.” Under Master He Pu Ren (also the personal physician to Deng Xiao Ping—Mao Tse Tung’s successor), Melissa studied not only TCM, but also medical qigong and other Taoist internal arts. Melissa Yang earned her MD from the prestigious Capitol University of Health Sciences, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology--one of China's top medical schools. After completing her training, she was a both a physician in the internal medicine department at Beijing's Gu Lou Hospital and an acupuncturist at Beijing Hospital.
In addition to her work as a physician, Melissa Yang also conducted research in pediatric developmental disorders and was later published in the respected Beijing Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine. After immigrating to the US, she became a professor in Oriental medicine, acupuncture, and TCM manual medicine (tui na) at the American Institute of Alternative Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is a system which can influence three areas of health care:
Promotion of health and well-being,
Prevention of illness,
Treatment of various medical conditions.
While acupuncture is often associated with pain control, in the hands of ou highly-trained acupuncturists, it has much broader application. Acupuncture can be effective as the only treatment used, or as the support or adjunct to other medical and surgical disorders.
The World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems including:
Digestive disorders: gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, diarrhea, and irritable bowel syndrome.
Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, recurrent chest infections, allergies, common cold.
Neurological and muscular disorders: headaches, migraines, facial tics, bell’s palsy, acute and chronic pain, tennis elbow, sciatica, low back pain, and osteoarthritis.
Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems: painful urination, male sterility, infertility, painful menstruation, endometriosis, PMS, and menopause.
Acupuncture is particularly useful in resolving physical problems related to tension, stress, and emotional problems.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of treatments differs from person to person. For complex, long-standing conditions, one or two treatments a week for several months may be recommended. For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required, and for health maintenance, only a few sessions a year may be all that is necessary.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE-EFFECTS TO THE TREATMENT?
Usually not. As energy is redirected in the body, internal chemicals and hormones are stimulated and healing begins to take place. Occasionally the original symptoms may worsen for a few days, or other general changes in appetite, sleep, bowel or urination patterns, or emotional state may be triggered. These should not cause concern, as they are simply indications that the acupuncture is starting to work. It is quite common, especially with the first one or two treatments, to have a sensation of deep relaxation following the treatment.
WHAT ARE THE NEEDLES LIKE?
DO THEY HURT?
People experience acupuncture needling differently. Most feel no pain at all, while some feel only minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Once the needles are in place, there is no pain felt.
Acupuncture needles are solid, very thin, and made of surgical steel. The point is smooth (not hollow with cutting edges like a hypodermic needle), and so it does not hurt like getting a shot. Also all needles are single-use, sterile, and disposable.
DOES ACUPUNCTURE REALLY WORK?
Yes. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has determined that “there is sufficient evidence of acupuncture’s value to expand it use into conventional medicine.” Many of its mechanisms of action are well-known and proven. Acupuncture can be given at the same time as other techniques being used, such as conventional medicine, chiropractic adjustments, or osteopathic manipulations. It is important that your physician be informed of everything you are doing so that you may get the best results from all your treatments.

INFORMATION COMING SOON.
Acupuncture and herbal therapy have been used for many years in the successful treatment of Bell’s palsy, stroke, and other cases of facial paralysis and loss of sensation. If acupuncture can lift a drooling mouth or a drooping eyelid on an severely impaired person with serious lack of local circulation then imagine what it can do for a relatively healthy person with sagging skin and wrinkles. With the increasing preoccupation over appearance, treatments were adapted for more cosmetic purposes. Cosmetic acupuncture still relies on the same principles as regular acupuncture. The root issues of hormonal imbalance, stress, etc. are still addressed. The difference is that points are added to stimulate the flow of Qi in the face and superficially to the skin.
In 1996 it was reported by the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture that in a clinical study of 300 patients treated with Facial Acupuncture significant results were achieved in 90% of cases after one course of treatment. The results included: increased skin firmness and leveling of wrinkles, the skin becoming more even-toned, improvement of the tonicity of facial muscles, as well as a general increased look of well-being not just in the face.

•Energy Light Rejuvenation™ is an exercise program for the skin to keep it toned, the texture healthy and circulation increased
•ELR™ treatments are recommended prior to special occasions and events such as weddings, anniversaries, vacations, holidays, parties, etc.
•Consume plenty of water, especially in the days leading up to a ELR™ treatment, as this increases the conductivity of the microcurrent treatment
