Mieko Takaoka, L.Ac., Dipl. O.M.

Mieko Photo Mieko Takaoka is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist who studied acupuncture and oriental medicine in both China and USA. She received doctoral degree from University of East-West Medicine in California, and PhD from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.

She was inspired to study oriental medicine when she personally experienced the healing power of acupuncture treatments. Once she fell ill and was healed by acupuncture while other modalities did not seem to work. That got her interested in learning more about this profound Chinese medicine, which has several thousand years of history.

Later seeing how her families were suffering from chronic illnesses and the side-effect of medications, she was motivated to become an acupuncturist/herbalist in order to manage her family members' chronic illnesses naturally.

She incorporates acupuncture techniques of traditional Chinese medicine, Master Tung's acupuncture, auricular acupuncture and scalp acupuncture to treat pain, addiction, smoking, stress, anxiety and depression in addition to common cold prevention. In the past, she treated VAs at The Bay Area Veterans Acupuncture Clinic in San Francisco. She also received a certificate of the special acupuncture training to provide relief and recovery in the wake of major disasters and traumatic events through Acupuncturist Without Borders.

She travelled near and far to receive training and attend seminars to embrace the learning of oriental medicine. She visited Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, Central America, and South America and treated people from all over the world with acupuncture. She studied multiple languages: English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Russian, American Sign Language, German, and Greek. She is eager to help community with healing arts of Chinese medicine.
